Dr. Harold Jackson, Ph.D.
Harold Jackson, Ph.D. is founder and president of The JacksonHeath Group Inc., an international communications and management consulting agency established in 1990 that has provided strategic counsel to corporate CEOs, government officials, college presidents and dignitaries across the country and abroad.
In 1995 he closed his agency to assume the position of vice president of institutional advancement for Howard University, leading a professional staff of more than 50 people and managing a $5 million budget. He helped launch a new external image for the University, and established a fundraising component that raised $17,000 per day, up from $8,000 per day in just eight months. He returned to Atlanta in 1997 to restart his consulting business.
Prior to founding his firm, Dr. Jackson was manager of media relations on the corporate communications staff at The Coca-Cola Company. He had formerly held the position of senior account executive with Hill & Knowlton Public Relations in St. Louis, Missouri.
At Monsanto Company in 1985, as manager of corporate employee communications, he created Monsanto Magazine and Monsanto Friday, publications for the company’s 40,000 employees. In addition, he invigorated the company’s employee relations programs, including creating and managing the largest employee event in the history of the company.
Before being recruited by Monsanto, Dr. Jackson spent 12 years managing higher education institutional advancement and external relations programs. As director of university communications at the University of Louisville, his publications and university relations programs won wide recognition. As director of public relations at Tennessee State University, Dr. Jackson established broad-based media relations programs and served as the institution’s chief spokesperson and advisor to the president. He held similar positions at Fisk University and Savannah State College. In addition to his administrative duties at these institutions, he has also served as a faculty member, teaching journalism and public relations courses.
Dr. Jackson’s diverse experience includes a stint as assistant editor at Ebony Magazine. In the broadcast arena, he hosted a television show in Savannah, Georgia for two years, and has produced films and documentaries on a broad range of subjects.
Dr. Jackson earned a bachelor’s degree in sociology and political science from Savannah State College in his hometown of Savannah, Georgia, and a master’s in journalism and a doctorate in speech communications (radio, television and film) from the University of Michigan.
Dr. Jackson serves on the boards of several non-profit national and community organizations, and has received recognition for his active involvement.
